The United States has announced the countries to which it will send 55 million doses of vaccine

The USA announced in detail today the countries to which 55 million doses will be sent vaccines against Covid-19, part of the $ 80 million tranche the US government has promised to deliver by the end of June.

As announced, 75% of the doses (ie 41 million) will be distributed through the Covax mechanism, which has been set up to ensure an equal distribution of vaccines worldwide.

In this context, 16 million doses will be sent to Asia (India, Nepal, Pakistan, Taiwan…), according to a White House statement.

About 14 million doses will go to Latin America and the Caribbean (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Haiti…). And about 10 million will be sent to Africa, “to countries selected in cooperation with the African Union,” according to Washington.

Also, the remaining 25% (another 14 million installments) will be distributed to countries such as Egypt, the West Bank, Gaza, Ukraine, Georgia…

In early June, the White House announced in detail the distribution of the first 25 million installments.

The 55 million installments will come from their supplies USA from Pfizer Inc, Moderna Inc and Johnson & Johnson, and when the AstraZeneca vaccine is approved by the US Drugs Administration (FDA) will also be added to the mix.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the United States was having trouble organizing the supply chain to send vaccines to other countries.

“We have too many doses to share with the world, but this is a Heraklion logistics challenge,” he told reporters, referring to the necessary information on security conditions, storage conditions and language barriers that need to be overcome.

The White House clarified that its intention is to give priority to medical staff and the most vulnerable.
