The Kremlin today denounced the “economic war” declared by the United States on Russia following the announcement by Washington of an embargo on US oil and gas imports, including sanctions.
“The United States has declared an economic war on Russia and is waging this war,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peshkov told reporters.
Massive economic sanctions have been imposed by a number of countries, mostly Western ones, against Russia following the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops almost two weeks ago.
The United States and the United Kingdom announced yesterday, Tuesday, a ban on imports of Russian hydrocarbons, while Europe is more reluctant to hit a sector on which it is highly dependent.
Russia considers its allegations that Ukraine had military biological programs to be an important issue for the whole world, which needs to know the truth, said Peshkov.
The Russian Foreign Ministry had earlier asked the US to explain to the world why they supported what Moscow describes as a biological weapons program in Ukraine. The charge is rejected by Kyiv and the Pentagon.
The Kremlin today also denounced Poland’s proposal to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to the United States for subsequent shipment to Kyiv, saying such a move would create a “potentially dangerous scenario.”
“It is a very undesirable and potentially dangerous scenario,” Peshkov said.
