The United States will send another 3,000 troops to Poland in the coming days in a bid to reassure its NATO allies, four U.S. officials told Reuters as Russia exercises in Belarus and the Black Sea. strong military forces on the border with Ukraine.
Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the aid would come from the 82nd Airborne Brigade and not from US forces stationed in Europe. A Reuters source said it was a “significant increase in strength”.
The aid comes in addition to the 8,500 troops already on alert to be deployed in Europe if needed and the 3,000 US troops Washington has promised to send to Poland and Romania.
