The University of Michigan consumer sentiment falls back to 79.2 in January from the expected 80

The index of University of Michigan consumer sentiment is down 1.5 points in January’s preliminary reading, standing at 79.2 versus 80.7 in December. The result is below the 80 points expected by the market.

The current economic conditions indicator has fallen to 87.7 from 90.0, while the consumer expectations index has fallen to 73.8 from 74.6.

Market reaction

The DXY index that measures the US dollar continues to rise at this time, after a renewed demand for the greenback that is taking it to a three-and-a-half week high at 90.75.
