The unknown of the underground of the Central Park tracks in the State Budgets

The draft General Budgets of the State submitted by the central government still contains, more than 24 hours after its presentation, a large unknown that directly affects the city of Valencia.

The in-depth analysis of the document has deciphered the incorporation of 420 million to free the Navy from the credit that released its accounts, 38 million for metropolitan transport, five million for the western collector of Albufera and even a more modest contribution, of 100,000 euros, to rehabilitate the Miramar tower, the abandoned infrastructure that connects the V-21 with the urban fabric.

But what has not yet been unveiled is the departure that the Ministry of Development has reserved for one of the most important railway interventions for the city in decades: the underground of the central park tracks, some works that have been expected for decades.

Although there is no explicit heading in the document about the works of the access channel, the tunnel that must bury the tracks from the south round to the Bridge of Giorgeta (at the beginning of the Central Park), both the mayor, Joan Ribó, and the deputy mayor, Sandra Gómez, ensured that there is a departure in one of the chapters that would allow a close horizon to be seen to begin the works. However, the figure was so hidden that none of the representatives could confirm a specific figure. More importantly, the mayor was even forced to rectify previous statements in which he argued that there was no funding in the state accounts for the access channel.

The sources consulted indicated their wish that the budgets will finally bring to light shortly how much will be allocated for the underground of the tracks in the access channel and even if there is any departure for the Central Station.

Apparently, according to the same sources, the item would be camouflaged between the cash flows of the investment activities because it is a transfer to Adif, the state-owned company participating in the Central Park Company together with the Generalitat and the Valencia City Council.

The other major railway work, the through tunnel, does reflect the draft Budgets submitted by the Government and which must be subject to validation by Congress. In this case, however, there is no heading for 2021. The first appropriation appears in 2022 and amounts to three million euros. The figure is rising and by 2023 it already accounts for 10 million, according to the documentation presented.

In any case, the budget allocation of the access channel would unlock a project that has been stuck for decades because of the high volume of investment it requires. In recent years, however, Fomento had shown a commitment to collaborate significantly in the financing of the works so that trains arrive in the city and cross it underground.

The unknown will be resolved in the coming days, when each and every paragraph and investment contained in the General Budgets of the State is completely degreased
