HMD Global received a license to produce smartphones under the Nokia brand in 2016. In addition to smartphones, HMD Global also launches various push-button phones, reviving the classic models.

In the fall of 2019, the Nokia 2720 Flip clamshell was presented, and now an updated version of the device is being prepared for release. According to NokiaPowerUser, the smartphone with model number TA-1295 has been certified by the FCC, which confirms that the phone will run KaiOS and support manual installation of the Google Duo video calling application.

The FCC certification indicates the device will be equipped with a 1500mAh battery with model number BV-6A, a Nano-SIM card slot, and supports 4G LTE and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

There are still few details regarding the updated version of the Nokia 2720, so it is not known how exactly the new product will differ from the phone released in 2019. But the fact of FCC certification usually indicates an imminent announcement of the device.

The HMD Global company at the end of the fourth quarter of 2020 occupied less than 1% of the smartphone market.
