«The current cancellation of flights by a number of foreign airlines is dictated only by the information on the deterioration of the situation“and not from real changes in flight safety,” Alexander Kubrakov told a news conference, according to the Athens News Agency.
Attempts to replace canceled flights
He did not name the airlines and said “the state is working to replace the canceled flights”.
Kurbakov said Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) had already started selling tickets and had increased the capacity of the planes on additional flights from Kiev to Munich and Geneva that Lufthansa could not handle.
Two Ukrainian airlines announced last week that they were having trouble securing some of their flights, while foreign carriers began avoiding the country’s airspace as Russia gathers a huge military force on its borders.
The UIA said it had received the warning from its insurers, as experts said other airlines were expected to avoid Ukrainian airspace after the US warned that Moscow could invade the neighboring country at any time.
