The USA informed Russia today, Thursday 27 May, that they will not rejoin the Open Skies Treaty, as reported by the Associated Press, citing US officials whom he did not name.
This Treaty, concluded after the end of the Cold War, allowed the states that had ratified it to conduct unmanned surveillance flights in the airspace of the rest.
The United States withdrew from the treaty in late November 2020, arguing that Russia had imposed restrictions on its implementation, particularly in the Kaliningrad enclave.
According to the Associated Press and as broadcast by APE-MPE, the Undersecretary of State, Wendy Sherman, told Russia that the US will not return to the Treaty.
