The governments of the USA, France, Germany and the United Kingdom yesterday, Sunday 1/12, responded with their joint statement, calling for a “de-escalation” in Syria, where jihadists and rebel groups that have allied with them managed to inflict a heavy blow on the forces of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, seizing since last Wednesday dozens of communities, including the strategic city of Aleppo. “We are closely monitoring developments in Syria and call for de-escalation by all parties and the protection of civilians and infrastructure to avoid further forced displacement and obstacles to humanitarian access,” according to the position of the four governments, released by the State Department shortly. The joint statement added that the “escalation” of the war in Syria “underlines the urgent need” to find a “political solution”. Source: RES
