In a move that shows that an effort is being made to rewarm relations between the US and China the American government is moving forward, as it has decided to send its first high-level delegation to the Asian country.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of USA who is responsible for East Asia and the Pacific Daniel Krittenbrink will accompany the director of the National Security Council for China and Taiwan Laura Rosenberger from December 11 to 14, as announced by the US State Department.
They will visit China, South Korea and Japan.
In China, Krittenbrink will be tasked with taking over from Joe Biden following the meeting he had with his Chinese counterpart on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali in mid-November.
The two leaders had then pledged “to continue to responsibly manage the competition between our countries and to explore possible areas of cooperation”according to the US State Department.
Biden and Xi had mainly discussed recent issues of disagreement, such as the future of Taiwan, US restrictions on imports of Chinese technological products or even China’s influence maneuvers in the world.
Daniel Krittenbrink will also prepare the visit of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, which is scheduled for early 2023 and will be the first by a senior US diplomat to China in four years.
