The US is blocking Abbas’ participation in the UN General Assembly – Palestinian officials visas

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will not be able to attend the UN General Assembly in New York next month, after his visas and 80 other Palestinian officials were revoked, the US Foreign Ministry confirmed. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has accused the Palestinians of undermining peace efforts and the pursuit of “unilateral recognition of a hypothetical Palestinian state”. The decision, greeting from Israel, is unusual, as the US is expected to facilitate the movement of officials of all countries who want to visit the UN headquarters. This ban is coming while France is leading international efforts to recognize a Palestinian state in the Summit – a move that Donald Trump’s administration had opposed.
