The US military announced the withdrawal of the artificial pier in the Gaza Strip

US Central Command (CENTCOM) today announced the completion of the artificial jetty mission off the coast of Gaza, marking the end of a troubled effort to land large quantities of humanitarian aid that they were intended for the civilian population of the blockaded Palestinian enclave. Since it was installed two months ago by the US military, the floating infrastructure has drawn more attention for its problems, in stark contrast to the official rhetoric in Washington, where it was presented as a source of hope for the delivery of humanitarian aid to hundreds of thousands of starving Gazans. Although it cost about $230 million, the man-made harbor proved extremely vulnerable to bad weather and was pulled from the shore several times after it was initially installed in mid-May.
