US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has invited his counterparts from several countries to a meeting dedicated to the armed conflict in Ukraine that will take place at a US air base in Germany next Tuesday.
The talks will take place at Rammstein Air Base, Pentagon spokesman John Kerby said in Washington on Thursday.
He did not specify who the guests were, but noted that not only NATO countries would participate.
The discussion is expected to address Ukraine’s defense needs in the context of the war with Russia and beyond.
“The minister (…) believes that it is not too early to start a longer-term discussion with our allies and partners on Ukraine’s future national sovereignty,” Kerby was quoted as saying.
Earlier in the day, the US government announced it was providing $ 800 million in new military aid to Ukraine’s armed forces.
“I want to emphasize again that what we provide is given in full consultation with the Ukrainians, who believe that these systems will help them in the battle of Donbas. When, where and how they will use them, of course, is up to them,” he added. Mr. Kerby.
