The first major piece of legislation to target the US tech industry in years, the US Senate today passed a package of measures to protect children from the internet. “It’s a great day,” said Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer in greeting. “The Senate has kept its promise to all parents who have lost a child to the dangers of social media,” he said. Henceforth this text must be adopted by the House of Representatives, where its approval is more uncertain and where MPs are on vacation until September.
