The video in which Prince William surprisingly serves hamburgers from a food truck (for a good cause)

“Can we have four Eartshot burgers, chef?” “Sure, they’ll be right there.” So far nothing strange, a normal conversation in front of any London food truck. Just that the blond and smiling chef in a blue shirtwhen it turns to serve customers, it turns out to be the prince William in person. Seeing the amazed, excited, incredulous faces of the customers one after the other in this sort of surprise candid camera organized (and later posted on YouTube) by «Sorted Food» really makes you smile.

“It took me a few seconds to realize what was going on,” says one of the customers. “Of all the things I would have expected, this one certainly wasn’t on the list,” comments another. Actually the reason why the heir to the throne of the United Kingdom gave out hamburgers for a day is quite simple, e it has to do with an important issue such as environmental protection.

In fact, the gimmick was a way to promote the Earthshot Prize, a project that Prince William founded in 2020 with the aim of better protecting the planet by rewarding innovative ideas that go in the direction of a better, cleaner and more environmentally friendly world. Each year, the award is given to those who provide forward-thinking environmental solutions in five categories: «Protect and restore nature», «Clean our air», «Revitalize our oceans», «Build a world without waste»» and « Help our climate”. To demonstrate the practical application that award-winning inventions can have, King Charles’s son wanted to use them to prepare hamburgerswhich were then distributed around in collaboration with the UK Youtubers of Sorted Food.

In the hilarious video that went online, William is seen carrying a number of boxes into Sorted Food’s headquarters. Inside there is everything needed to promote the award through a very common food truck: vegetables grown in the “Greenhouse-in-a-Box” by Kheyti – technological greenhouses designed to help small farmers in the poorest countries protect themselves from climatic risks – were the ingredients of the vegetable burger served by William. The bun was then cooked in the «Mukuru Clean Stoves», green stoves made by a Kenyan start-up, which reduce the impact on the climate by lowering the CO2 emissions needed for cooking. Finally, the burgers were served in a packaging created by Notplaa reality – also awarded with the Earthshot Prize – which creates containers made of algae and vegetable raw materials instead of plastic.

All served by an exceptional testimonial, who for a day stopped playing the role of the prince and wore the apron of a waiter.
