Representatives of “Yandex” told the news outlet TJ that in the first three months of 2021 alone, the company removed six million links to pirated content from search results based on complaints from copyright holders. This is a huge figure, since in just two years (the anti-piracy memorandum was signed in November 2018) Yandex removed more than fifteen million links to various illegal content from search. That is, in three months of 2021, more links were removed than in the previous year. At the same time, out of the total mass of 12.3 million links to pirated content were removed according to complaints sent by the largest copyright holders in the country.
Top Companies for Complaints about Illegal Content:
- Star Media – 5.5 million.
- VGTRK – 2.7 million.
- KinoPoisk – 1.7 million.
- TNT-Teleset – 1 million.
- “A Serial” – 0.8 million.
- ivi – 0.7 million.
- Central Partnership – 0.5 million.
Also, representatives of “Yandex” shared interesting statistics about the content, which the copyright holders most often complained about with the requirement to remove the link from the search results. The most popular film among publishers turned out to be the Yolki project, followed by Pun, Village of Fools, then The Walking Dead, Comedy Club and According to the Laws of War. The most surprising in this list is the entertainment TV show “The Pun”, which was closed back in 2001, but apparently the project has enough fans to this day, as well as those who want to provide this content in a pirated format.
In addition, Yandex employees spoke about the procedure for removing links from search. Copyright holders check the search results for illegal resources, after which they add links and sites to the register of projects that violate the publisher’s copyright. After that, within a few hours, the content from the search results disappears without a trace.
