«The Voice Senior»: the revenge of the Over is one of Raiuno’s greatest successes

Whether it’s climbing a mountain with a pair of rusty crampons or turning a program that has always struggled to shine into an unexpected success, it is clear that certain challenges are not for everyone, but for a select few. Antonella Clerici is part of that coven of heroines who have succeeded in a feat considered by many to be almost impossible: popularize a talent that in the course of its history has always been tarnished by more experienced and fiercer opponents than him. Just as when in 2010 she approached the Sanremo Festival collecting several “no thanks” from her colleagues and the distrust of the press only to take home one of the most successful editions of the decade, so this time Antonella approached the experience of The Voice Senior with humility and the desire to show that something good from that experiment she would get her out. The result is there for all to see: on a competitive evening like Friday night, The Voice Senior achieves ratings that exceed network objectives and manages to gather around him a heterogeneous audience ranging from young people tweeting to overs who enjoy the show singing at the top of their lungs from the sofa at home.

One of the merits of the new version of the talent show, whose final is scheduled live on Raiuno on Sunday 20 December, it lies precisely in the fact that he has shifted the backbone from the young hungry for success to the Over who have lived their life and that little is done about the appeal of fame. The spirit of the “elders”, of those who during the first lockdown were reviled by public opinion in a perverse game at “them better than us” that still makes us shiver today, is, unlike young people, lighter, more complicit, more hungry for fun than of expectation. Seeing these competitors take to the stage indulging dreams that have remained dormant for many years and bringing out the determination that life has led them to hide to adapt to the general trend it is an inestimable gift that the public service packs for an Italy paralyzed by the emergency and in need of a caress which, today as today, is not only a duty, but sacrosanct. Together with the competitors and Antonella Clerici herself, who occasionally manages to break the ceremonial of an armored format to put her own, the jury has also done a lot, also able to please everyone.

With Loredana Bertè, now a talent black belt thanks to experiences such as Friends, Now or never e Standing Ovation, it’s at Gigi D’Alessio, winner of the last tradition edition of The Voice on Raidue, the attention was drawn above all Clementino, who in a handful of episodes immediately proved to be perfectly capable of managing a prime time alone, and the unprecedented couple formed by To the bathroom, also an old acquaintance of The Voice, and daughter Jasmine Carrisi, the only Under 35 of the group and the only stranger to the classic repertoire that many competitors have chosen to bring to the stage. Beyond the criticisms that have rained down on her, Jasmine had the merit of representing Generation Z in all its fragility and in all its desire to have its say, approaching, perhaps for the first time, the old TV and the music of the past with a hint of healthy curiosity: the fact that Jasmine remained almost crystallized in front of a Cocciante song and breathed a sigh of relief at the first notes of Music and the rest disappear by Elettra Lamborghini expresses all the tenderness of the young people who still have a lot to learn, but who, nevertheless, decide not to back down and throw themselves. The relationship with the father with granite tastes but still willing to compromise is one of the many gears that make The Voice Senior an oiled machine which, from now on, will represent for Raiuno a resource to be unleashed in the future against the competition, trying never to dissolve the promise not to distort the elderly who want an opportunity to have fun.
