During a speech at the Russian Energy Week forum, the Chairman of the Government of the Irkutsk Region, Konstantin Zaitsev, emphasized that underground mining in the region is increasingly coming out of the shadows. This is due, among other things, to systematic work to identify gray miners.
Over the course of a year, in the Irkutsk region, energy workers identified 1,968 addresses where miners illegally installed equipment. Owners of underground mining farms were billed for consumption of 347 million kWh for a total amount of 1.3 billion rubles.
Zaitsev also noted that electricity generation in the Irkutsk region in 2022 amounted to 68.6 billion kWh, consumption – 64.4 kWh. Therefore, in order to maintain the region’s energy surplus, it is necessary to build power plants with a total capacity of 1,225 MW.
It was recently reported that an underground miner from Angarsk was billed 4.5 million rubles for the electricity consumed.
