The war in Ukraine “will not end tomorrow or the day after tomorrow”, French President Emmanuel Macron warned today, on the day of the inauguration of Donald Trump, who had promised to end the war within 24 hours of his election to the US presidency. “There can be no peace and security in Europe without the Europeans and without the Europeans negotiating them,” the French president stressed during his speech to armed forces officers near Rennes. “Today’s stake is to give Ukraine the means to endure and enter future negotiations from a position of strength.
