As a Global Goodwill Ambassador United Nations Food Programme (WFP), the multi-platinum artist Weeknd has 2.5 million dollars from the XO Humanitarian Fund, for the meeting food needs in Gaza which the WFP has warned about.
From the donation, which is equivalent to four million emergency mealswill be financed by securing 820 metric tons of food parcelswith which the feeding needs of more than 173,000 Palestinians for two weeksaccording to the UN World Food Programme.
Since 7 October, WFP has provided food assistance to more than 764,000 Palestinians in cooperation with regional partners and other UN agencies. Thanks to WFP’s efforts, trucks have transported fresh bread, date bars, canned food, flour, pasta, tomato sauces and oil—to hard-to-reach areas that were previously unreachable.
Appointed a Goodwill Ambassador in October 2021, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye has actively supported WFP’s global mission of addressing hunger and food insecurity through personal donations of $1.8 million and through the XO Humanitarian Fund which he founded in collaboration with the UN World Food Programme. The Fund, which has raised $5 million to date, has committed $2.5 million to support emergency food aid for women and children in Ethiopia and will now provide $2.5 million to Gaza.
In 2024, Tesfaye pledged to donate one dollar from every concert ticket price of his After Hours ’til Dawn tour to the XO Humanitarian Fund.
