The White Lotus 3, the ending: that’s who dies

ATTENTION: This article contains spoiler at the end of the third season of The White Lotus

Well, it was a real bloodbath. Now we know who died during the very long final of the third season of The White Lotus (broadcast on Sky): all five.

The creator of the series Mike White Finally, he decided to eliminate several people from the Thai invamping of the luxury resort. Both rick (Walton Goggins) be chelsea (Aimee Lee Wood) died during a shooting in which the owner of the White Lotus Thaland Jim Hollinger also lost their lives (Scott Glenn) and his henchmen. First Rick kills Jim in what believes to be a revenge for the murder of his father. Shortly thereafter, however, it turns out that Jim was actually his father. Rick eliminates both Jim’s body guards, just to find that a bullet shot by one of them caused Chelsea’s death. In the end, the hotel security guard, Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong), puts an end to Rick’s suffering.

The first death suggested in the episode is actually a false alarm involving another father-child couple. Lochlan, played by Sam Nivolaseems to have been accidentally poisoned at the hands of Timothy (Jason Isaacs), after the latter tries a murder-suicide that involves the whole family except Lochlan. But it is only an experience of Almost death. When he resumes knowledge, Lochlan says to his father: “I think I just saw God.”

At the beginning of the final episode, entitled Amor Fati – Latin expression which means “love for one’s own destiny” – the patriarch of the Ratliff family, Timothy, unable to bear the idea that his wife and children discover his financial crimes, decides to poison his family with the mortal fruit collected by a “suicide tree” that is located outside their villa. Offers the eldest son Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger), to his daughter Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) and his wife Victoria (Parker Posey) Three lethal piña Colada and plan to drink one himself too. Timothy, however, decides to save his younger son Lochlan, who just before the episode had told him that he could survive even without money or home.

White revealed the inspiration for this plot in a short interview broadcast after the ending: “I had read stories on an aristocrat that had basically killed her family because she had dissipated all the money and had not had the courage to tell him,” he said in the segment UNPACKING EPISODE 8who followed the episode. “The way Timothy is seen by his family is so crucial for his sense of self that, when this is endangered, he prefers to set everything on fire rather than facing reality”.

Although Timothy changes his mind on the massacre – removing the piña Colada from the hands of Saxon and announcing to everyone that “coconut milk is over” – he cannot clean the blender he used to prepare mortal drinks. The following morning, Lochlan uses the mixture left in the blender to prepare a protein smoothie. The mother and brothers go to have breakfast, without knowing that the boy is in critical condition. Lochlan Vomita, seems to suffocate and has a hallucination in which you can see the surface on a mirror of water while four monks observe it from above. But just when he is about to reach them, he sinks and seems to drown (metaphorically). Only later do you awaken in the father’s arms.

In the meantime, on the other side of the resort, Rick has to face his demons again when Jim, the man who believes killed his father, shows up at the hotel. Jim approaches Rick with cruel words: «I remember your mother. I knew it was a huchtona and a whore. I didn’t know it was also a liar ». He adds, in a vague way, that Rick’s mother sold him a “fairy tale” and that the beloved father who died of Rick “was not a saint”.

Rick is clearly troubled by the encounter and awareness that Jim hides a weapon in his jacket pocket. But his cheerful girlfriend Chelsea tries to calm the situation. “Chelsea has a sort of romantic fatalism on their relationship and you would also like to believe it,” says White in his post-final interview. “She says to him:” Stop fixing you on the love you have not received. Think about the love you have. I am here “.”

But Rick abandoned the restaurant of the Resort angry, in search of the healer who helped him at the beginning of the season. She replies that she will look for him later. Then he sees Jim take a selfie with his wife, Sritala Hollinger (Lek pravadi) and Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan). Rick quickly approaches the group, takes the weapon of Jim and shoots him twice in the chest. “He killed my father!” He shouts a few seconds later. At this point, Sritala reveals shocked: “He is your father”.

It follows a shooting that involves many of the protagonists of the season, and during the Chelsea conflict, who had long since suggested that he would be ready to die for his beloved, remains killed by a bullet. “It is a classic Greek tragedy theme, that of someone who kills what she loves in an attempt to take revenge,” explains White. Rick eliminates some Jim security guards during the clash, until Gaitok, the tormented guard of the Thai branch of the White Lotus who had given up on violence, shoots Rick. White adds that the only way for Gaitok to become a “hero” both at work and in his nascent relationship with Mook (LaLisa Manobalaka Lisa delle Blackpink) It was unfortunately “going against his spiritual beliefs”.

The other intertwining of the season end without bloodshed. The toxic trio of childhood friends formed by Kate (Leslie Bibb), Laurie (Carrie Coon) and Jaclyn exceeds mutual passive aggression, simply discovering the joy of being together. Belinda leaves Thailand with his son Zion (Nicholas Duvernay) and 5 million dollars just obtained, abandoning his new pretender pornchai (Sun Hetrakul). Like Tanya (played by the now deceased Jennifer Coolidge), she too had made a promise for a future activity that she has no intention of maintaining.

Before the conclusion of the third season of The White Lotusproducer David Bernad said that the ending was so top-secret that he has distributed “absurd finals” on the set. “We did not distribute the authentic final script,” he said to The Hollywood Reporter.

Some actors were thus troubled by the outcome of the season that they almost forgotten it. “I forgot who died,” Posey said. “It was really stressful when I read it. However, the dark things have overcome them great ». Charlotte Le Bonwho plays Chloe, offered a more juicy anticipation on what will happen: “People will end up hating Mike White”.

But the creator of the series sees the last murder in a different way- “my hope is that it arouses a cathartic or satisfactory sadness and does not leave the viewer the bitter in the mouth,” he told Thr White. «People will have millions of different opinions. I just hope I got the ending. ” And he adds some anticipation on the next season: “For the fourth season, I would like to leave the imagination of the waves that break on the rocks, but there will always be space for other murders in the White Lotus resorts”.
