The outdoor spaces of Royal Palace of Milanas if they wanted to prepare the spectator for the journey of infinite suggestions that awaits him a few steps away, they give the first taste of From the Heart to the Hands: Dolce&Gabbanaan exhibition, of course, but before that a declaration of love by the designer duo for Italian culture, which has always been their privileged source of inspiration.

Digital works of art, created by renowned visual artists of the contemporary scene such as Felice Limosani, Obvious Art, Alberto Maria Colombo, Quayola, Vittorio Bonapace and Catelloo dot the entrance, acting as a prelude to the crossroads of salt which, from 7 April to 31 July 2024 they become custodians of history, or, better yet, of the very essence of the fashion house, which chose Milan – where they were artistically born – to tell their 40 years of creativity.

Each of them – like gods tableau vivant meticulously studied to offer the public a work of art within art itself – becomes the founding piece of a puzzle with a thousand nuances and suggestions. A mosaic of colours, shapes and creations ready to tell the whole world and the Dolce&Gabbana style: from visual arts to architecture, from opera music to Italian traditions, from theater to Dolce Vita.

As the title of the exhibition suggests, it is the Heart, and therefore the idea, the ingenuity, which pushes us to shape, but it is only through the hands that everything takes shape. Well: the beginning of the journey into the meanders of Handmade, a value dear to the designer duo, as well as a timely meeting between artisan tradition and contemporaneity, takes place on the main floor of the Palace. Here, room after room, ten in all, the very meaning is dissected, which unfolds in the most diverse forms and inspirations.

From the room dedicated to Venetian glass processingwith high-level craftsmanship settings that recall the embroidery and crystals of the dresses present, we move on to the environments that recreate the scenes from the cinematographic transposition of The Leopard by Luchino Visconti, and then let yourself be enveloped by a real one baroque explosion. Under the aegis of the Sacred Heart, this space presents a contemporary holy of holiesa treasure chest that houses a selection of Haute Couture and High Jewelery creations that alternate the charm of Sicilian black with the opulence of gold.

But it's there Tailoring, fifth room of the itinerary, the beating heart of the exhibition journey. A living laboratory, which will see tailors and craftsmen actually working there every Friday from 11.00 to 13.00 and from 16.00 to 18.00 and which will offer the public a realistic look behind the scenes of Dolce&Gabbana's Haute Couture, Haute Couture and Haute Joaillerie creations.

The route then winds through the arts of painting and architecture, to then arrive at the seventh room, the one dedicated to richness of the Sicilian artisan tradition, true reference to the origins, which comes to life thanks to a special installation decorated by hand by master painters of majolica and the Sicilian Cart.

The journey continues through environments dedicated to White baroque, where it is possible to admire clothes from the Alta Moda Collection Stuccos which merge with the surrounding space in a great visual symphony, and then, again, in the dimension of the myth. Greek divinities materialize in the form of ethereal dresses from the Alta Moda Collection presented in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and Haute Couture creations embellished with elegant mosaic work, a hymn to the richness of Italian Byzantine basilicas.

Like a show that reaches its final act, in the same way the exhibition ends within a theater, where the crimson curtain and the tiers of the boxes open onto a scene featuring the creations inspired by the stylists' most loved works. Final tribute to the strong bond that unites the world of opera and the vision of Dolce&Gabbana.
