The World Bank is temporarily withdrawing staff from Ukraine

The World Bank is temporarily withdrawing its personnel from Ukraine, while it has suspended the sending of personnel to the country due to the tensions on the border with Russia, according to an internal memo that came to the attention of the Reuters agency.

The World Bank says it is closely monitoring the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border, where Moscow has amassed a large military force within shooting distance of Ukraine, but said its activities in the country were continuing.

“The main priority of the World Bank Group is to keep our staff and their families safe. Based on our evacuation policy, the temporary relocation of staff is ongoing and strict security measures have been put in place,” the statement said. of the bank.

The memo, however, does not provide details on where or how many World Bank staff will be relocated.

On Saturday, the US State Department said it had ordered most of its embassy staff in Kiev to leave Ukraine immediately due to a threatening Russian invasion, adding that some staff would continue to work from Lviv in western Ukraine.
