The World Health Organization condemns Russian aggression in Ukraine

His assembly World Health Organization (WHO) today adopted a resolution condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine, including attacks on health facilities.

The resolution was adopted by 80 votes in favor and 9 against, 52 countries that abstained from voting and 36 countries were absent.

The motivated by West resolution, tabled at the WHO’s annual assembly, also calls for an assessment of the impact of Russian aggression on the health sector.

There was no immediate reaction from her Russia although he had submitted a counter-proposal recognizing the health emergency in Ukrainebut without making any reference to her own role in the war.

The resolution was immediately rejected by the assembly after the first me 62 votes to 13, while 61 countries abstained and 41 were absentaccording to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.

Tensions were high in the run-up to the double vote. During the speeches that were crucial for Russia, its envoy Moscow interrupted the proceedings and was recalled to class.

The British ambassador Simon Manley also accused the Russia for disinformation at the assembly, and a Russian official confirmed that he had distributed leaflets accusing Ukrainian forces of attacking health facilities in parts of the country he controls.

THE Moscow systematically denies that it is targeting civilians in what it calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine.

The vote is reminiscent of last year’s assembly, when two resolutions were also tabled, with the one promoted by Western countries and finally adopted being voted by 88 to 12 against. As this year, there were many absences and abstentions.
