The Yamal-Europe pipeline transports Russian gas in reverse for the 11th day

The Yamal-Europe pipeline, which normally carries Russian gas to Western Europe, sent fuel back to Poland for the 11th consecutive day on Friday, according to data from German network operator Gascade.

According to Reuters, the flows at the Mallnow measuring point at the German-Polish border were going east to Poland with an hourly volume of over 1.2 million kilowatt hours on Friday morning, as the data show.

The pipeline is an important route for Russian gas exports to Europe.

The results of the auction also showed that the Russian gas exporter Gazprom has not closed the transit capacity of natural gas for exports through the Yamal-Europe pipeline for Friday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week that Germany was reselling Russian gas to Poland and Ukraine instead of alleviating an overheated market, blaming German gas importers for the reversal and price spike.

The German Economy Ministry declined to comment on Putin’s comments, and gas importers did not respond to Reuters requests for comment.

Gas traders rely on inventories to supply European buyers and avoid paying record prices, industry sources and market analysts said, explaining the unusual reversal of pipeline flows.
