The year was named when commercial deployment of 6G networks can begin

In 2019, the commercial rollout of 5G networks began. By now, many countries already have 5G networks. South Korea, China, USA, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia, Finland, Spain, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Australia and Germany are leading in this regard. While 5G is still far from comprehensive coverage, academia and industry have already begun developing the sixth generation of wireless technologies. Experts of the consulting company ABI Research have undertaken to predict the timing of the emergence of 6G networks.

Building on the time frame for previous generations of wireless deployments, analysts predict 2028 and 2029 will be the first years of commercial 6G deployments. This will be preceded by the appearance of the first standardized technology around 2026.

According to ABI Research, 6G will enable the construction of “X Reality” (XR), which is a combination of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR). In it, real and virtual environments will be combined in real time, providing interaction between man and machine, including in real time.

Given that 5G was designed with a maximum data rate of 20 Gbps and an average user experience of 120 Mbps, in the case of 6G networks, these figures are likely to be increased to 1000 Gbps and 1 Gbps. / s, respectively. This will enable applications such as XR and holographic communication to be supported.
