There are many voices calling for the resignation of Andrew Cuomo

Democratic senators Chuck Sumer and Kirsten Gilibrand have been added to a long list of New York City officials calling for the resignation of Governor Andrew Cuomo following a series of allegations of sexual harassment.

As the two senators pointed out, the governor of New York “lost the trust” of the New Yorkers after these allegations.

Alongside, Democrat MPs Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jerry Nandler, as well as several other New York political officials today joined their voices in favor of the resignation of Governor Andrew Cuomo, following a series of allegations of sexual harassment against him in recent weeks.

“This week, the second allegation of sexual assault and the sixth allegation of harassment against Governor Cuomo were filed,” Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman, a New York senator, said in a statement.

“The fact that the latest complaint is so recent is worrying and raises concerns about the safety and well-being of administration staff now. “These allegations are all consistent and highly detailed, and there are also credible media reports that confirm their testimonies.”

From his side, the governor of New York again refused to resign, although more and more voices are calling for him to leave his post, after accusations of six women that he sexually harassed them.

“I will not resign,” Andrew Cuomo said in a telephone interview, assuring that he “has not done” the acts for which he is accused.

The 63-year-old Democratic governor, who has held this position for 10 years and until today was considered the “hero” in the fight against the pandemic, again asked everyone to wait for the results of the ongoing investigations.

“Often there are motives” for the allegations being made and “we need to know the facts,” he said. Insisting that he “never harassed” anyone, he added that “he will focus on his work” but also that he will cooperate with the investigations so that “we have the facts”.
