Last week, Pfizer announced that three doses of its immunizer can neutralize the micron variant of the new coronavirus. With this, doubts about the effectiveness of other vaccines end up arising.
The virologist at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Rômulo Neris, spoke about the topic in an interview to CNN this Sunday afternoon (12). According to him, the prospects for the vaccines in Brazil are good.
However, he points out that, with regard to Ômicron, “there are more questions than answers, as we have more and more variants, more transmitters, like this one now”, says Neris.
The virologist also understands that the new variant is still in the process of recognition and that it is still “needed to understand if any effort in the vaccine process will be required that is different from what we currently have”, he said.
Romulus also explains that it is reasonable to think that the more differences between the variants, there is the possibility that our organism will be deceived. Therefore, he also reinforces that the time is now for caution with regard to holding events in Brazil.
“It is difficult to make predictions about these events being safe. During the pandemic, we observed a significant increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, precisely at the end of the year, carnival, even in restrictions. In the current circumstances, the best measure is to avoid it”, he added.
At least four Brazilian capitals have decided that the Carnival party will not be held in 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As for New Year’s Eve, at least 64% of the country’s cities canceled public celebrations to avoid crowding.
