The singer Anita attended, this Thursday (2), the event “Power of Women” from the North American magazine variety, in New York, in the United States . As one of the event's honorees, the Brazilian woman spoke about his career and the lack of opportunities in Brazil.
Along with names like Mariska Hargitay, star of the series “Law & Order: SVU”, Shonda Rhimes and Amy Schumer, Anitta was chosen to be honored at the vehicle's annual event for her charitable work. The singer represents the charity CUFA (Central Única das Favelas), which aims to promote a poverty-free society.
Anitta was introduced at the event by actress Bruna Marquezine, who highlighted her “authenticity and burning passion for music”.
“You are an agent of change,” said Marquezine. “You are a fearless woman who overcame numerous social and cultural barriers to get to where you are – opening doors for many other women in our country and serving as an inspiration and symbol of female empowerment, courage and freedom.”
Anitta spoke about her experience in Brazil and the lack of opportunities in the country.
“We are born believing that these things are not possible for us, because we don’t have them. There is no structure. There are no opportunities. We were born and raised in the ghetto of this country… we don’t have the tools we should have to be in all the places we dream of,” she pointed out.
The singer also did not fail to talk about the sexism she faced in her career, especially at the beginning.
“There were so many rules. So many rules about how to be a woman, how to behave, how to find the best husband, how to look good in public, how to be the cute girl everyone wants to marry,” she said. “And I just wasn’t that person. I wanted to shake my ass, I wanted to be free, I wanted to make my own money.”
