French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said today that Russia continues to gather “so many (many) forces” around Ukraine and that Russian announcements about the withdrawal of units must be “verified”.
“It’s better than nothing, these are changes that are being announced, but I, I’m a bit like the apostle Thomas, including the changes that are being announced. These changes need to be verified,” he told the French Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
“There are still so many (many) forces and high schools continue,” he insisted.
“Therefore, we will take this as an indication, but I am not like those who believe that (…) compared to last week, when we were facing an imminent danger of war, today peace has come,” he stressed.
“All the conditions are in place for a massive operation by Russian forces in Ukraine,” he said.
“But did President Putin decide to do it? No, in any case, not right now,” he added.
At the same time, as announced by the French Foreign Minister, the Foreign Ministers of the seven strongest economies of the G7 world will meet for talks in Munich on Saturday.
