There is a lack of political will in the world to end hunger, says expert

Last Sunday (16), World Food Day was celebrated.

For the representative in Brazil of the World Food Program, Daniel Balaban, the date serves as a warning amid the increase in the number of people in situations of food insecurity around the world.

In an interview with CNN Radio he explains that the expectation was that, by this time, hunger would be waning.

For the specialist, without encouragement from the political class, it will not be possible to solve this problem.

“Political will is important, knowing that there is a problem and that there is a solution,” he said.

According to him, it is essential that the population put leaders in power who understand the problem and who consider it important to put it on the agenda.

“It is necessary that public policies are implemented, Brazil itself has already had positive moments, in which the number of people suffering from hunger has decreased.”

An example of public policy, according to Balaban, is one aimed at small family farmers.

“They are the solution and the victims of the process, when they do not receive resources as a large producer, they end up abandoning their land and going to large cities to try their luck”, he added.

Daniel Balaban reinforces that the same movement that happens in Brazil, also happens around the world.
