‘There is no alternative but to pierce the ceiling,’ says Lira after the PEC vote

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), told journalists this Thursday (4th) that there are no options but to break the spending ceiling. The speech of the head of the House comes after the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of the Precatório was approved in the first round.

“There is no alternative but to pierce the ceiling,” said Lira. “There will be no resources left. All these resources will be offset in the year 2022.”

The proposal was approved by 312 votes to 144. The text allows the payment of R$ 400 for Auxílio Brasil, a social program that replaces Bolsa Família and is one of the main bets of the federal government.

The next stage of voting in plenary should take place on Tuesday (9), according to Lira. And for the parliamentarian, more deputies will attend.

“We had almost 60 deputies absent from the vote. This will not happen on Tuesday, the quorum will be greater.”
