Misleading: The video in which a woman reports that she was unable to vote for Jair Bolsonaro (PL) last Sunday (2) is misleading in a polling station in Tucuruí, Pará. She also claims to have been unable to sign the voting book. The same complaint was made by another woman who appears in the images. In response to the case, the Electoral Justice prosecutor responsible for the electoral zone said that he attended the school, that the ballot box was in order and that none of the voters in the place reported any problems. Regarding the complaints related to the attendance book, the court pointed out that voters with the biometrics collected are not required to sign the voting book.
Investigated Content: In video, a voter who claims to be at the Julia Passarinho Municipal School (EMEF) in Tucuruí (PA), films a woman who claims she was unable to vote for Bolsonaro and that she was not allowed to sign the voting book. The court also said the footage was recorded outside the polling station.
That same afternoon, TRE-PA reported that the woman had been notified and was testifying at the electoral registry office in the region. TRE-PA finds no problems at the polls
To Comprova, TRE-PA reported that it was there to check the situation as soon as it became aware of the case. The electoral judge of the 40th Electoral Zone, Thiago Cendes Escórcio, and Electoral Justice Francisco Charles Pacheco Texeira, attended the voting section. In video sent to Comprova by WhatsApp, they clarified that the urn was in order and that everyone in the place was heard and did not report any problems.
“Actually, the urn was in order. All voters who were inside were questioned, including those who had already voted, and said that everything was ok with the A and B candidates they chose. We are taking steps to notify these people, given that the city is not that big and they have already been identified,” said Teixeira.
On Tuesday, the 4th, sought again by Comprova, TRE-PA reported that the woman’s testimony had been collected and sent, along with the video, to the internal affairs department and presidency of the court.
“The TRE of Pará informs that the voter who appears in the video has already been heard by the Electoral Judge of the 40th Electoral Zone, Thiago Cendes Escórcio. Her testimony, collected at the municipal registry office, on the same day, was sent along with the video to the Internal Affairs and the Presidency of the Court so that they can be evaluated and sent, if applicable, to the Electoral Public Prosecutor’s Office. so that the appropriate measures can be taken”, says the note.
TRE-PA did not report the content of the testimony, which, according to the press office, could only be done after the case was concluded.
Civil Police are on the case
According to delegate Thiago Mendes, superintendent of the Lago do Tucuruí region, of the Civil Police of Pará, no complaint was registered in the police station about the case. Despite this, he said, still on the 2nd, that he had designated two teams to investigate the case.
Sought again on Tuesday, the delegate said that the woman had testified at the electoral registry and that there was no evidence of any type of fraud. He also said that there was no technical finding of failure of the ballot box.
The PM of Pará was contacted on the 2nd, and replied that it was not called for any occurrence at the polling place mentioned in the video.
Signature and biometrics
According to the TSE, the voter is exempt from signing the voting book if he is recognized by biometrics. If there is no biometrics registered or in case of non-recognition of the biometrics, he must sign the voting book.
Publication of TRE-SP explains that, when it is not possible to confirm the identity of the voter using his fingerprint, the poll worker must recheck the voter’s documents and compare them with data present in the voting book.
“If the voter’s identity is confirmed through the documents presented, even without biometric recognition, the polling station authorizes the vote with its own code. In this case, the fact is recorded in the minutes of the section and the voter must sign the voting book, in addition to returning later to their electoral registry for a new fingerprint collection”, describes the text.
In the note sent to the press, TRE-PA emphasized that voters with the biometrics collected are not required to sign the voting book, as it is already proof that the voter attended the ballot box to enter their vote. However, anyone who still wants to sign the notebook can make this request to the polling station. The court also recalls that the voter can’t put the number of your candidate next to the signature, as rumors on social media have suggested.
According to the Electoral Justice, the idea of biometrics is not to speed up voting, but to guarantee more security to the process. It adds to other voter identification devices, such as the voting book and the requirement to present an official document, to increase the reliability of the voting system.
O check It has also already clarified, in a verification published on Thursday (29), that the polling book of the electoral section is one of the ways to check the identity of the voter, who must sign it before voting if he has not registered biometrics. Other doubts were clarified in the same check.
why do we investigate: Comprova investigates suspicious content that goes viral on social media about the presidential elections, public policies of the federal government and the pandemic. The verified post disseminates misleading content, which has the potential to discredit electronic voting machines and, consequently, the electoral process and democracy in the country.
Other checks on the topic: Recently, Comprova showed that video showing confusion between PT members in Sergipe is from 2013 and does not involve Lula’s act; what there is no evidence that the polls arrived in Cordeiro (RJ) with votes already registered is that Complaints about ballot boxes must be registered with the presiding officer, not in the TSE application.
