“There is no way Ukraine can join NATO soon,” said Boris Johnson

After Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement yesterday that talks with Russia have taken “a realistic turn”, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that “there is no case for Ukraine to join NATO soon.” He added that he understood “the realism of the position” expressed by the President of Ukraine.

THE Johnson visits Gulf countries to boost bilateral ties after Britain stopped importing oil and gas from Russia.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister, speaking via video conference at the summit of the leaders of the JEF (Joint Expeditionary Force), a military alliance led by the United Kingdom, expressed his indignation that his country has not joined NATO, but added: “This is the truth and we just have to accept it as it is”.

Speaking to reporters in Abu Dhabi today, Johnson said: “I spoke with Volodymyr again yesterday and of course I understand what he is saying about NATO and the realism of its position. “And we have always said – we have made it clear to (Russian President Vladimir Putin) – that there is no way Ukraine can join NATO soon.”

The British Prime Minister stressed that decisions on the future of the country should be made “by the Ukrainian people” and “its elected leader”, while pledging to continue “supporting” Zelensky, as reported by the Athens News Agency.

“And the most important thing is to stop Putin’s aggression, his absolutely barbaric attacks against Ukraine must stop and should not succeed, as they have not succeeded,” he said.
