There may be a lack of medical supplies in Brazil due to Covid in China, says Júlio Croda

The rise in cases of Covid-19 in China could affect Brazil in two different ways, according to infectious disease specialist at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Júlio Croda.

THE CNN Radio he pointed out that China is a “great producer of inputs”, such as medications, masks and even serum.

“We saw in the past, when the pandemic started, that exports were closed and that impacted [o Brasil]🇧🇷

According to Croda, the Chinese “are using the products more and the supply may decrease to the point where we don’t have the necessary protective equipment.”

The other point concerns the possibility of a new variant emerging: “When we have greater transmission of the virus, there is a risk of a new variant that can escape the immune response and be responsible for a wave of cases here in Brazil.”

For this reason, the infectologist reinforced the importance of Brazilians seeking to complete the vaccination cycle with booster doses, in addition to the use of masks in agglomerations.

Covid in China

Croda claims that the escalation of Covid-19 in China is related to the circulation of a more transmissible variant, BK1.

“In China, we have not had significant circulation of the virus and it has low vaccination coverage, in addition, it has abandoned the ‘covid zero’ policy without any transition”, he added.
