“There will be 700 points for childhood vaccination in São Paulo”, says Health Secretary

The city of São Paulo will start the vaccination campaign for children aged 5 to 11 against Covid-19 on Monday (17), starting at 7 am.

in interview at CNN Brasil, the municipal secretary of Health of the capital of São Paulo, Edson Aparecido, said that there will be more than 700 points for childhood vaccination in the city of São Paulo.

“Last night we received the vaccine for children and during the night we distributed them to 6 deposits. Now, we are going to distribute it to the 700 health points in the municipality”, he said.

Aparecido declared that the capital did not receive enough doses to vaccinate all children aged 5 to 11 years at once, so it will be necessary to prioritize some groups.

“We received 64,090 doses of the vaccine, but there are 1.35 million children in this age group. [5 a 11 anos] in Sao Paulo. Therefore, we will prioritize the vaccination of children with comorbidities and permanent disabilities”, he said.

According to the secretary, it is not necessary for there to be any declaration from the parents or guardians or from the doctors for the vaccination to take place.

He stated that the only document that must be presented is a certificate or report that proves the child’s comorbidity or disability.

Aparecido stressed that vaccination is important so that the return to school takes place safely, and said that schools in the city of São Paulo, public and private, will be prepared.

“All schools in the municipality will be adapted so that we can have a safe return to classes. Children have suffered a lot during the pandemic away from schools. The damage was immense, and we cannot continue in this situation. Classes should resume as normal,” he said.
