These 10-year-old Samsung Galaxy smartphones have unofficially received Android 13

It’s been more than a month since Google released the final version of Android 13. Despite the fact that the operating system is only officially available for installation on a few smartphones, the enthusiast and developer community has begun releasing custom ROMs for more devices. This is because Google has uploaded the Android 13 source code to AOSP. So, for example, this month Android 13-based firmware for the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 appeared on thematic forums. And now the even older Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II also received an unofficial update.

An active XDA forum member html6405 has released a custom firmware based on Android 13 for the Galaxy S III, which was released in 2012. In addition, he prepared a similar assembly for the iconic Galaxy Note II smartphone. So owners of these devices can try Android 13 by downloading the unofficial version of LineageOS 20 and following the installation instructions.

It is worth noting that unofficial builds of LineageOS 20 for the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II are early alpha versions, so there may be problems in the operation of the devices. The developer noted that some features in current builds do not work yet. Among them are NFC, sound via Bluetooth during calls, network monitoring and support for microSD cards. Everything else is functioning properly.

Such custom firmwares are a lifesaver for outdated smartphones, as well as for owners of end-of-life devices. This is a great opportunity to bring the device back to life and try the new version of Android.
