These 12 Russian banks will test the digital ruble system

The Central Bank has listed banks that will take part in testing the digital ruble system. The list includes VTB, Sberbank, Dom.RF Bank, Alfa-Bank, Tinkoff Bank, Promsvyazbank, Gazprombank, Ak Bars, SKB-Bank, Rosbank, Bank Soyuz and TKB Bank. The prototype of the digital ruble platform should be ready by December, and testing will start in January 2022.

It will take place in several stages throughout the year. Based on the results of this work, a roadmap for the introduction of the digital ruble will be formed. To organize such interaction, we quickly formed the first pilot group of banks, so that they had time to set up their systems and processes for piloting from a technical and technological point of view.

At the first stage, it is planned to test the issue of the digital ruble and a number of other operations. Further, the list of tested operations will increase along with the number of test participants. Earlier it said that they would first test transfers between individuals, as well as from individuals to legal entities when paying for goods and services. Later, it will begin to connect the payment of taxes and the transfer of budget payments.

At the moment, when making a payment or transfer through a mobile application, the user is forced to do so according to the rules of a particular credit institution, which itself sets commissions and chooses conditions. After the implementation of the digital ruble platform, a client who is a user of the services of several credit institutions will be able to seamlessly replenish a digital wallet through one bank, make a transfer through another, and make payments through a third.

The Bank of Russia introduced the digital ruble last fall.
