Exist songs that stop time, are handed down from generation to generation, aging beautifully and becoming the soundtrack of people’s lives for years and years.
There are songs instead that, don’t ask me how, they always seem to have just come out, especially those from 2010 onwards and which have marked the childhood or adolescence of many of us.
It will be that when we talk about the “2000” the brain deceives me into thinking that it was a few years ago and instead … 23 have already passed.
Aside from my obvious math and time perception limitations, you can’t imagine the shock when I came across a post celebrating 10 years since the release of Best Song Ever of One Direction. Claiming to be a fan of 1D, at the time, was a guarantee of youth while, today, it’s becoming almost prehistory, how did everything happen so fast?!
After recovering from realizing uncomfortable truths like “you are an adult and in no time at all you will be close to retirement (but no guaranteed pension)” I decided to dig even deeper and research other songs from 2013with the same masochism with which you read old chats with your ex after a breakup or listen to sad songs when you’re already on the verge of despair.
But given the relentless speed with which it flows, I’d say don’t waste any more time: here are some songs that have turned or will turn 10 in 2023.
