In the next period, eight municipalities of Thessaloniki that participate in the program of Sustainable Urban Mobility of the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki are expected to proceed with tender procedures, in order to procure electric vehicles that will be integrated in the cleaning fleets. The Metropolitan Committee of Thessaloniki approved today the budget of the project which amounts to a total of 19 million euros as well as the updated prices for the supply of vehicles.
The budget for each Municipality is as follows:
Municipality of Ampelokipi – Menemeni: 1,700,000
Municipality of Thessaloniki: 5,025,000
Municipality of Kalamaria: 2,325,000
Municipality of Kordelio – Evosmos: 2,475,000
Municipality of Neapolis – Sykeon: 2,225,000
Municipality of Pavlos Melas: 2,750,000
Municipal Unit of Pylea: 1,500,000
Municipal Community of Kalochori: 1,000,000
According to the vice-governor of Thessaloniki, Voula Patoulidou, at the end of 2018 the counter-region took the risk to start the process in order to create the first network of municipal electric cars and charging stations in Thessaloniki. In 2019, the obstacles that this process had were overcome and in 2020 the first entries of projects related to this call were made. In addition, in 2020 the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki started the actions for the action of the integration of electric vehicles in the cleaning fleets of the municipalities of the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki.
In the previous period the Municipalities of Thessaloniki, Pylaia-Chortiatis, Ampelokipi-Menemeni, Neapoli-Sykeon, Delta, Pavlou Mela, Kalamaria and Kordelio-Evosmos were called to make their decisions on the types and number of vehicles needed and to inform Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki. For its part, the CERTH Transport Institute recorded the available types of electric vehicles in order to examine whether the conditions are met and the needs are met in order for the project to proceed quickly. The implementation of the project will be carried out through the Regional Solid Waste Management Agency.
Ms. Patoulidou, during the meeting of the Metropolitan Committee, pointed out that none of the municipalities participating in the process has been wronged and stressed: “the next step for the municipalities is the tender process to procure the vehicles. The cost will be covered by “The sustainable urban development program. We all agree. We are fighting for something very specific so that sustainable urban development gives us greater guarantees to achieve sustainable prosperity.”
The will of the Region for the change of the fleets of vehicles of all municipalities, but also of the Region in electric vehicles has been expressed, moreover, the Regional Apostolos Tzitzikostas, pointing out that the Region is in cooperation with the EU in order to create charging stations for electric cars in the entire road network of Central Macedonia.
