You can already play music feeling that you are ecological. A Catalan company has developed an unprecedented violin made of natural fibers and carbon that dispenses with the usual noble woods, some in danger of extinction; without losing physical or acoustic qualities. The violin is the first of the instruments that can already be purchased on the 123Sonar website, although it plans to open a workshop shop in Terrassa. There you can also find a prototype cello with similar characteristics.
This company is one of the nine that has participated in the Empenta program, promoted by the ACCIà ?? agency, which depends on the Department of Business and ConÚixement of the Generalitat, with the aim of accelerating the growth of companies that are in initial phases for your products to reach the market and find financing.
The idea of this ecological violin was born from the personal experience of its two founders, professional musicians and music teachers, who wanted to update the product. The co-founder of the company, Julia PÃ © rez Luque points out that “violins are still built with the standards of the 16th or 17th century, designed to play in closed rooms with good acoustics. But today a musician can perform in a auditorium, a bar, taking classes and playing on the subway. This did not happen in the 16th century and wooden violins suffer from the current world situations “.
Beyond adapting the instrument to current needs with materials that make it more versatile and resistant to impacts, humidity or temperature changes; the violin developed by 123Sonar also reduces environmental impact. The other co-founder of the company Urko Larraà ± aga, emphasizes that “a sustainable consumption is increasingly being sought and this instrument allows minimizing the use of endangered woods”.
The public program has allowed the two musicians to train in business management and “diversify our activities”, says Julia PÃ © rez Luque. For this reason, beyond the cello prototype, 123Sonar has already launched a cello pick-rest that has been well received and in its workshop shop, in addition to the sale of traditional instruments, it will also repair them. n. Thus they become total ecological luthiers
