The Archbishop of Tiberias Alexios of the Monastery of Agios Porphyrios broke out, as Israel bombed the historical monasterywhich operates as a civilian shelter in Gaza.
In statements he made on the Live News show, he stated that “here in the building that fell 18 people were killed. 18 dead, babies, say babies 4 months, 5, 2 years, 3 years, in the arms of their parents. We have extricated, we have dragged the bodies. The others tried and many were released.”
“Now they are trying to extricate the bodies of 2 more people left. He is the guardian of the monastery who is a Muslim and there is also another Christian, a doctor and we have about 14-15 people in the hospital. Who are hurt but not too seriously,” he then added.
He also noted that “there is fear, fear, great fear. They bombarded with a rocket because it opened a huge hole in the side of the church committee building, which is next to the entrance of the Monastery. Inside this building there were around 100-150 people and luckily the building leaned against the wall of the church and did not fall on top of each other. They would all have died.”
“The issue is why they hit civilians and even in a church area. He is inside the church, inside the monastery, he was not outside. It is integrated within the churchyard and they hit civilians. What is the reason; Do we have weapons inside? Why did they knock?“, he said among other things.
