Its prime minister is safe and sound JapanFumio Kishida, after small explosion that occurred in a fishing port in the western part of the archipelago, where he was preparing to speak.
According to Japanese media reports, the explosion was caused by a smoke detector thrown by a man against him. Fumio Kishida was immediately removed from the scene without injury.
Information states that the perpetrator was immediately arrested at Saikazaki portin Wakayama Prefecture, while since the explosion there does not appear to have been any injurywhile there are no reports of property damage. However, the police refused to comment on the incident.
Japanese authorities have stepped up security measures, after the assassination last July of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abewho was shot dead by a man with an improvised weapon in the middle of his campaign speech.
The incident was recorded as Japan hosts G7 ministerial meetings in the north and central parts of the country this weekend. The summit of the leaders of the world’s seven most industrially developed nations is also scheduled to take place in Hiroshima in May.
