“They took a piece of me away”, says Marielle’s mother during the executors’ trial

Quite emotional, Marinete Silva, mother of former councilor Marielle Franco, was the second prosecution witness to testify to the jury of Ronnie Lessa and Élcio de Queiroz, this Wednesday morning (30). Both accused of killing the politician and driver Anderson Gomes, in an attack that took place on March 14, 2018.

The first person to speak was Fernanda Chaves, the councilor’s former advisor, who survived the crime.

“They took a piece of me away. Every time it hurts, it hurts a lot”, said Marinete, in person at the Court.

The councilor’s mother’s testimony began shortly after noon. She made a point of highlighting how much she missed Marielle. “It’s living with the lack of a daughter who could be here today. A woman who dedicated herself completely to what we live. A woman who valued the well-being of her entire family. It’s a void.”, he highlighted.

Marinete confided to the jury that she even sent a message to her dead daughter’s cell phone: “My daughter! What did they do to you?” the message said.

“A mother’s delusion, of imagining that it all couldn’t be true. It was the pain that went beyond my chest in a few days [após o atentado]”, explained the prosecution witness.

The victim’s mother said that the family received several insults after the murder and defended the conduct of her daughter, who helped a lot at home, and became a mother at 19 years old. She also helped raise her sister, Anielle, now Minister of Racial Equality.
