Thieves steal 25 tons of cod in Santos (SP)

Four men, aged 25 to 51, were arrested by the Military Police at dawn on Thursday (17) in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo, for involvement in theft of a load of 25 tons of cod, valued at approximately $ 2 million.

The police action took place in a shed in the city of Santos, on the eve of the Easter holiday.

According to the Public Security Bureau, the truck driver was surrendered by an armed criminal while waiting to carry the vehicle at a customs terminal in Guarujá. Under threat, he was forced to direct the truck to Santos.

Upon arriving at the destination imposed by the robbers, the victim was forced to leave the vehicle and later taken by car to Itanhaém, where he was released. After being released, the driver sought assistance at a Fire Department station, which called the Military Police.

The investigation began after an anonymous complaint via 190, informing that a stolen truck in Guarujá would be parked at Professor Francisco Meira Street in Santos. At the scene, the police found the abandoned vehicle.

With the aid of the company’s tracking system, the PM located the truck coupled to the truck on Almirante Vivaldo Cheola Street. Upon arriving at the address, the police felt a strong cod odor coming from a shed with the gate open.

Inside the property, the police team found the truck connected to another truck, with the container violated and part of the load scattered. The four men were arrested in the scene.

The occurrence was presented at the 5th Police District of Santos, where the criminals were seized two radio frequency signal blockers and three GPS detectors. The recovered load, estimated at $ 2 million, will be refunded to the owner.
