A third convoy of trucks with humanitarian aid crossed the Rafa pass today coming from Egypt heading for the besieged Gaza Strip, a humanitarian worker and two security sources said.
The delivery of humanitarian aid through Rafah began on Saturday after disputes over supply inspection procedures and shelling of the border from the Gaza side left some of the aid stranded in Egypt.
Rafah is the main crossing to and from Gaza which does not border Israel. Following Israel’s “total siege” of the enclave in retaliation for an attack by Hamas militants on October 7, Rafah has been at the center of efforts to transport humanitarian aid.
On Saturday and Sunday, 34 trucks passed. The number of trucks in today’s convoy was the same as in previous days, the aid worker and the two sources said, according to international agencies and the Athens News Agency.
United Nations officials say about 100 trucks a day will be needed to meet basic needs in Gaza, home to 2.3 million people and where food is running out and water and electricity are in short supply.
