Third group of Brazilians expected to leave Gaza this Thursday (21)

A third group of Brazilians and Palestinian family members are expected to leave the Gaza Strip this Thursday (21).

According to the list which the CNN had access, there are 34 people authorized to cross the Rafah crossing, on the Egyptian border. The final number of new returnees may still change, as there may be last-minute cancellations.

According to CNN It has been learned that a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) plane, the KC-30, takes off at 7am this Thursday (21st) from Rio de Janeiro heading to Cairo (Egypt) to carry out the repatriation. The group is expected to disembark on Saturday (23), at 8 am, in Brasília.

This is the third rescue operation in Gaza and comes after Israel reviewed vetoes on Brazil’s repatriation requests and authorized the departure of 16 people.

On the 8th, Israel vetoed 24 names sent by Brazil. The ban made most people give up at the last minute, as they didn’t want to leave relatives behind. In the end, only 47 of the 102 people who asked for ransom returned to Brazil.

Now, after Israel released 16 people who had been vetoed, family members who had given up on the trip will also be able to embark for Brazil.

Of the 34 people allowed to leave Gaza tomorrow, 16 have dual nationality, 17 are Palestinian and one is classified as international.

Eight people, however, remain prevented from leaving Gaza even after Israel’s review of the vetoes. The reasons for the vetoes are not clear, according to diplomatic sources.

The request to review the vetoes was made personally by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, to the Chancellor of Israel, Eli Cohen, during a meeting in Buenos Aires, on the 9th of this month. The two participated in the inauguration of Argentine president Javier Milei.
