Patricia Bullrich (Juntos por el Cambio) — placed third in Argentina’s presidential election this Sunday (22), with 23.85% of valid votes (at 10:50 p.m. and with 94.18% of ballots counted) — did not congratulate her opponents and did harsh criticism of the current government.
“Populism has impoverished the country. And I won’t be the one to congratulate anyone who returns to power and who was part of the worst government in the history of Argentina,” he declared in his campaign committee.
“We will never stop being what we are for Argentina. We will never be accomplices to populism in Argentina. And we will never be accomplices to the mafias that destroyed this country. I will never surrender,” she added.
Despite the criticism, which could be extended to the government candidate Sergio Massa (Unión por la Patria), she also did not reveal whether she would support the other candidate, Javier Milei (La Libertad Avanza), in the second round, or whether she would remain neutral.
“Tonight we did not achieve the objectives we wanted for our Argentina (…) But we come to ratify with all our strength the values of our cause. Our cause goes beyond an electoral moment and beyond a moment of defeat,” he said.
Among the values she defends she listed “values of transparency, the fight against corruption, of a country that must abandon populism if it wants to grow and end poverty”.
The candidate also predicted that the country’s situation, which currently has triple-digit inflation, is likely to worsen in the future. But she stood alongside her voters to face the problems.
“We will be with every Argentine in the difficult times ahead. And we are convinced that there is an understanding of what we have planted for an Argentina with balance, with work, with production, with security. We will definitely have an opportunity again.”
The second round will take place between Milei and Sergio Massa (Unión por la Patria) on November 19.
