Thirty-five people were arrested in Iran during a “satanic” rally

Iranian authorities have arrested 35 people in a raid against a “satanist network gathering” in southwestern Iran's Khuzestan province, ISNA news agency reported Saturday. The operation was carried out after police “verified the location” of the gathering, where “symbols of Satanism, alcohol and drugs” were found, according to the same source. A total of “31 men and four women who were at the site” were arrested and referred to judicial authorities, Rukhola Yaarizadeh, police chief in Dezful city, Khuzestan province, told ISNA. In general, Iranian authorities characterize concerts of rock music, above all hard rock, genres banned in the Islamic Republic, as “satanic” ceremonies. Drinking alcohol is also strictly prohibited in the Muslim country. In mid-May, police arrested 250 people, including three European nationals, in a western suburb of Tehran on similar grounds. In 2007, authorities arrested about 230 people attending an illegal rock concert near Tehran and accused them of belonging to a Satanic cult.
