Thirty-six thousand people left their homes due to the floods in Italy

The Italian prime minister Georgia Meloni returned earlier than planned from the G7 meeting in Japan and is currently visiting the affected areas from the deadly wave of bad weather, in the region of Emilia Romagna, as reported by the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.

On Tuesday, the cabinet will meet in Rome to approve emergency measures to support those affected. According to the latest figures, fifteen people lost their lives and so far, over thirty-six thousand people have been forced to leave their homes due to the disasters. Material damage is estimated at five billion euros, but this amount is very likely to increase.

“Finally the sun came out, the situation started to improve. A large part of the city of Cesena, for example, tomorrow I hope will have been cleaned of mud,” Emilia Romagna regional governor Stefano Bonacini told the Rtl 102.5 radio network. As the experts emphasize, however, the risk of new landslides remains very high throughout the region.

For now, finally, the competent authorities have decided to extend the state of maximum alert until tomorrow, although according to the meteorological forecasts, only light rains are expected in the wider area of ​​Bologna in the next few hours.
